DREAMER by Becca Johnson – Blog Tour Review

Dreamer_Tour_Banner

I had the pleasure of reading an incredible YA mystery romance novel over the past week entitled Dreamer by Becca Johnson. Let me start off by saying I will most definitely read more books by this author because she had me intrigued the entire time – I had to know who the lead character Rory was going to end up with and who the mysterious man was kidnapping local women. I was wrong about that part actually, I thought it was someone else and that did make me a tad bit upset because it would have been a real pickle if it had turned out to be the one I thought! Anyway, I really enjoyed reading this book and was upset when I had to put it down. It’s youthful and filled with innocent fantasies and emotions. I like how Becca didn’t try to push the envelope of teenage behavior and still was able to write a captivating YA book without all the violence and sexuality in many other similar novels. I applaud her tactics in accomplishing this.

I really enjoyed reading about Rory’s unique gift, especially the way Becca used it as an opening to chapters. That was a wonderful structure and kept the story exciting. You continue reading on to find out when the dreams are fulfilled and if Rory chooses to change them. The teenage romance is endearing and while the charm of these two boys may be a bit understated (I think there would have been more sibling rivalry) it’s still believable enough. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a cozy sort of romance mystery at the teenage level. An overall fun reading experience.

Synopsis

Fifteen-year-old Rory Adair has a secret she never reveals to anyone—dreams that foreshadow what is to come. Excited about finally meeting the hot, tall, blue-eyed guy from one of those dreams, she is shocked when he turns out to be identical twin brothers Bryce and Ryder Wyatt, both of whom take an instant interest in her and compete for her attention.

As Rory tries to use her secret ability to help her decide which brother to ask to the Sadie Hawkins Dance, the dreams start to change. Something bad is going to happen, but before she can figure out how to warn her friends without revealing her secret, her best friend Stacey goes missing.

Rory teams up with Bryce, who has a secret ability of his own. Together they use their abilities, intellect, and gut instinct to find the missing women. Can Rory sort through her feelings for the Wyatt brothers—and find her friend—before she loses them all?
