YA Scavenger Hunt – it’s on!!!

 YA Scavenger Hunt
Welcome to YA Scavenger Hunt! This tri-annual event was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors…and a chance to win some awesome prizes! At this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize–one lucky winner will receive one signed book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online for 72 hours!

Go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page to find out all about the hunt. There are TWO contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all! I am a part of the RED TEAM–but there is also a blue team for a chance to win a whole different set of twenty-five signed books! If you’d like to find out more about the hunt, see links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt homepage.

Today, I am hosting Leanna Renee Hieber on my website for the YA Scavenger Hunt!
Leanna Renee Hieber is an actress, playwright and award-winning, bestselling author of Gothic Victorian Fantasy novels for adults and teens, such as the Strangely Beautiful saga, the Magic Most Foul saga and the forthcoming Eterna Files. Her Strangely Beautiful saga won 3 Prism awards for excellence in the genre of Fantasy Romance, hit Barnes and Noble’s and Borders bestseller lists and garnered numerous regional genre awards. This out-of-print series will reissue in new and revised editions from Tor/Forge in early 2015. The Strangely Beautiful saga is also being adapted into a musical theatre production. Leanna’s Magic Most Foul saga began with DARKER STILL, an Indie Next List pick and a Scholastic Book Club ʺʺHighly Recommendedʺʺ title and the trilogy is now complete. Her new Gaslamp Fantasy saga, The ETERNA FILES previews Fall 2014 from Tor/Forge. Her short fiction has appeared in numerous anthologies, including QUEEN VICTORIA’S BOOK OF SPELLS (Tor) and WILLFUL IMPROPRIETY. She is a proud member of performers unions Actors Equity and SAG-AFTRA and works often in film and television on shows like Boardwalk Empire. A perky Goth girl with more corsets than is reasonable, Leanna answers to the name Lady Malfoy, enjoys long walks through graveyards in full Victorian regalia, a good ghost story, and visiting Family in Salem. She lives in New York City with her husband and their beloved rescued lab rabbit.

ʺJust when we think our nightmares are over, the Society has invented a new horror. Around every corner a shadow, behind every whisper a demon. If we don’t end what the devils began, we will die haunted…ʺ
The finale in the acclaimed Magic Most Foul trilogy: The trauma and the terror of the Master’s Society has only escalated for the dashing Lord Denbury and brave, feisty Miss Natalie Stewart, and a new terror has been unleashed in Manhattan. Together with their stalwart friends and unlikely heroes, they take the fight directly to the Denbury estate, where new evils have awakened. But are they prepared for all the sacrifices that shall be asked of them? With their very lives and the sanctity of their mortal souls at stake, Natalie and Jonathon are past the point of no return…

From Leanna: Hello friends! I’m here excited to promote THE DOUBLE LIFE OF INCORPORATE THINGS, ( http://tinyurl.com/tdloitaz ) the final installment in my Magic Most Foul saga, a Gothic Victorian Fantasy trilogy. I’m very excited to share this little scene I whipped up specifically for this event. I’m an unapologetic Goth girl and have been for the bulk of my life, and so in writing my Magic Most Foul saga, a Historical Fantasy series, I wanted to essentially create a “Goth Club” in 19th Century New York and England. So here we have a bonus Scene with Magic Most Foul series characters – Featuring Natalie Stewart, Lord Denbury, and the beloved and dramatic Nathaniel Veil, who leads Her Majesty’s Association of Melancholy Bastards…

New York City, 1881 The opportunity to see Nathaniel Veil perform was ever a delight, and after everything that all of us had been through in the past year, culminating in a literal war between worlds of terror and that of heavenly peace, tonight’s performance was a particular celebration as we rang in the new year with friends and family. Veil had invited me, and my fiancé Lord Denbury – I still thrilled at the word fiance, new as it was- to sit in a theatre box that gave us a spectacular view hovering over the Astor Theatre stage. Tonight Veil simply sang. Usually his performances, dressed all in black and on a stage set of rolling moors, pointed stone archways and long shadows, featured adapted works from famous Gothic novels. His show ACROSS THE VEIL indulged in contemplating the darker themes in life, showcased rich and delicious danger alongside \ supernatural mysteries of soul and body. Tonight, he focused on song, and shared with us all the poems of Edgar Allan Poe that he’d set to music. He had invited his whole Association of dramatic, darkly inclined artistic brethren, the H.M.A.M.B., who were gifted with a healthy dose of self-deprecation at the foundation of their avid commitment to the morbidly beautiful. And tonight they were all with him on stage; a fascinating cross-section of age, ethnicity and gender representations, all swaying gently to the music like one living being, a mass of undulating black crepe and diaphanous tulle. Jonathon and I were honourary members of the Association, of course, but Nathaniel had asked us to sit in a place of prominence so he could direct a few songs entirely to us as congratulations on our coming nuptials. I blushed a great deal throughout the entire show, but allowed the honor to go forward without too much protest. I wasn’t a girl for the spotlight like Veil and his love Lavinia were. She was right there beside him, captivated, dancing like a entranced black-clad seraph around him, arms lithe and graceful as they flitted and turned like wings. It was all rather spectacular, this night of poetry. We had lived through such dark times that the tales of Poe were simply real to us. We felt a kinship in his words and terrors. To pretend that demonic forces and the blackest of magic hadn’t nearly killed us, broken our sprits, it wouldn’t help us heal. Nathaniel allowed us to safely regain our own internal balances of light and shadow. To find beauty in what we had endured. And yet, some little corner of my mind remained ill at ease. Somehow, I just knew… the dark forces that we’d bested, well, they were incorporeal. And when something doesn’t have a body… how can you truly know if it is well and truly dead? Or… just waiting for another day. I can’t live in fear. And I won’t. The darkness has passed over us. But who will the shadows seek out next?

The Magic Most Foul saga: Darker Still http://tinyurl.com/darkerbn The Twisted Tragedy of Miss Natalie Stewart http://tinyurl.com/twistedbn The Double Life of Incorporate Things http://tinyurl.com/tdloitbn The themes of Magic Most Foul (along with a few crossover characters) will continue further in the forthcoming ETERNA FILES, coming from Tor/Forge in a teaser novella this fall with an early 2015 release.

And don’t forget to enter the contest for a chance to win a ton of signed books by me, Leanna Renee Hieber, and more! To enter, you need to know that my favorite number is 17.
