Special Days: Time to Celebrate

Today my youngest is two years old. Happy birthday sweetheart!

Last night I stayed up writing his birthday letter crying. It’s a tradition for me. Each year I write my kids a letter the night before their birthday reminiscing on the year and pouring out my heart for them so they’ll always know how much I love them and how proud I am of them. Someday when they’re much older I will give them each their collection of letters. Or if something were to ever happen to me they would at least have those to read and know what they meant to me and thus always be able to feel my love.

It has been a long two years with this boy. He is one of the biggest blessings in my life but in more ways than the usual “he’s my baby” concept. The challenges my husband and I have faced with him have given us far more appreciation for simple things in life than we might have ever realized otherwise. It is because of the hard times that we appreciate the good ones and use the memories of those hard times to inspire us to work smarter, enjoy more and live life to the fullest.

For me, his birthdays are a celebration of survival. We made it through another year. Happy birthday sweetheart, I love you.
